India’s footwear, leather exports to Middle East, Africa see big boost

India’s exports of footwear and leather apparel and accessories to Middle East and Africa witnessed an exponential growth during the first half of 2022. The export of footwear to Middle East surged by 45 per cent. India’s proactive economic policy towards Middle East, especially Arab countries, helped the exporters to increase their presence in the market. 

India’s export of footwear to Middle East increased to $87.180 million in the first half (H1) of 2022 from $59.837 million in the second half (H2) of 2021. Therefore, the shipment jumped by 45 per cent over the previous period of six months. The exports stood at $60.492 million in H1 2021, $53.284 million in H2 2020 and $47.668 million in H1 2020. The shipment amounted to $42.328 million in the third quarter of current year. India’s exports of $129.508 million in January-September 2022 already crossed the shipment of $120.330 million in 2021, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. 

The exports to Africa also increased to $64.022 million in H1 2022 from $54.477 million in H2 2021. They were at $62.679 million in H1 2021, $81.325 million in H2 2020 and $51.851 million in H1 2020. The shipment was at $37.257 million in the third quarter of the current year. India exported footwear worth $101.279 million in the first nine months of the current year. Last year, the exports amounted to $117.157 million. 

India’s exports of footwear and leather apparel and accessories to Middle East and Africa witnessed an exponential growth during the first half of 2022. The export of footwear to Middle East surged by 45 per cent. India’s proactive economic policy towards Middle East, especially Arab countries, helped the exporters to increase their presence in the market.

India’s exports of leather apparel and accessories to Middle East also increased to $36.097 million in H1 2022 from $28.691 million in H2 2021. The shipment was $56.813 million in the first three quarters of the current year. Last year, it was reported at $59.450 million. 

India exported leather apparel and accessories to Africa worth $7.704 million in H1 2022 and $7.420 million of H2 2021. The shipment was $11.787 million in the first three quarters of this year. Last year, it was reported at $14.441 million.
